Champlin is governed by a Mayor and four council members with city elections held in the fall of even numbered years. The City Council serves as the policy making body, with the Mayor as the presiding officer.

City History

Champlin was first settled when Father Louis Hennepin, Michael Accult, and Peter Dualy were captured by the Sioux tribe, that eventually led to an Indian trading post being established. The first permanent settlement was known as Marshall Township, and by 1859 it was split into two towns: Champlin and Dayton. In 1947 a part of the former Champlin Township was incorporated to form the village of Champlin, and by 1971 the city of Champlin was formed.
